The former Palermo tactician’s deal is expiring this summer after he replaced Ciro Ferrara on the Azzurrini bench a year ago.
After leading the side to the Final of the European U-21 Championship, where they lost 4-2 to Spain on Tuesday, Giancarlo Abete wants to keep him in place.
“I want to compliment the Under-21 side for their efforts in the championship,” Abete told Sky Sport Italia.
“I hope that Mangia remains in charge of the set-up. I have an excellent relationship with him and we’ll soon meet up to decide his future.”
Should Mangia not stay on, the Federation could promote Gigi Di Biagio from the Under-20 side. Andrea Stramaccioni, sacked by Inter this month, is another possible candidate.
