The latest confirmed data from the Italian Government has 4,634 positive tests for Coronavirus in the country, with the death toll climbing to 197.

All sporting events must be played behind closed doors until April 3, but the situation could deteriorate.

“If a Serie A player were to test positive for the Coronavirus, we would not rule out suspending the whole season,” Federation chief Gravina told Rai Sport.

“We’d have to be realistic, and in those circumstances, adopt all the necessary procedures to guarantee first and foremost the health of our athletes, then consider what impact it can have on sporting competition.

“We can’t rule anything out right now, but we also should not try to dream up a hypothesis for a situation that at this moment we cannot predict.”

The entire fixture list has been transformed by the postponement of six games from Week 26, so those will be played this weekend instead.

“Playing behind closed doors is certainly not a complete match, but seeing club Presidents arguing over what is in their own interests sends out a very bad image of Italian football. Anyone who only looks after their own small patch of grass represents the slow death of our sporting system.”
