The President of the Italian football federation Gabriele Gravina has been selected to serve as one of the two new vice-Presidents of European football’s governing body UEFA. 

Confirmation of the news came at the Constitutive UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Lisbon after the conclusion of the 47th UEFA Congress earlier on Wednesday afternoon. 

Gravina was elected to his new position alongside former Wales captain Laura McAllister, who both come in to replace former executives Fernando Gomes of Portugal and Sandor Csanyi of Hungary. 

Gravina has served as the president of the FIGC since October, 2018, having gained 97.2% of the votes at the time. 

His appointment to the Italian federation came after he stepped down as President of the Lega Pro earlier that same month, where he had been in charge since 2015. 

Earlier on Wednesday, it was confirmed that UEFA President Aleksander Cerefin was elected to serve in his post for a third term, having been the only person to run for the position.
