FIGC President Giancarlo Abete has given Italy boss Cesare Prandelli his full backing, regardless of the Azzurri’s result tonight.

The Italians go into the final round of matches in Group C at Euro 2012 knowing that a win over the Republic of Ireland may not be enough to see them through to the next round, should Spain and Croatia produce a score draw of 2-2 or higher.

However, even if Prandelli proves unsuccessful in taking the national team further in Poland and Ukraine, Abete has moved to remind fans that the Italian Football Federation will not remove him from his position.

“It is a subject that, if dealt with today, could give rise to some misinterpretation,” Abete reflected today on Sky Sport 24.

“We remain true to what we said at the start of the Euros and that was that whatever the final result is, Prandelli has been identified as the technician for the medium and long term of four years.

“There is no need to recall this on the very day of a decisive game.

“For the FIGC, he is the Coach that will take us to the World Cup in Brazil.”
