The Italian FA’s (FIGC) President Giancarlo Abete has hit out the Lega Calcio for rejecting Cesare Prandelli’s proposal for pre-Euro 2012 training camps.
Prandelli, backed by FIGC, had requested that the League release players for two or three set dates during the season run-in, so as to give him more preparation time to work ahead of naming a squad for Euro 2012.
However, the League announced that it had unanimously rejected the suggestion, arguing that notice on the request was too short and that there were too many fixtures to grant the request, a response to which Abete expressed his disappointment.
“We note the decision of the assembly,” Abete began on Friday.
“We have lost a useful and important opportunity to better prepare for the European Championships.
“There was not even the justification of having teams still left in Cup competitions. However, we have to take this chance to better reflect on the fixture calendar.”
