“I saw an authoritative and confident Italy on the field, with a fluidity of football that at times had been lacking in previous games.

“We are back on track,” said President Abete. “It is too early to make a judgment call, but Cesare Prandelli has done well in handling this initial phase of the reconstruction.”

The Azzurri drew a line under the second Marcello Lippi era in the summer of 2010.
