A new round of FIFA elections has been scheduled for February 26 next year, the organisation has announced.

Current President Sepp Blatter won re-election in May, but admitted he didn’t feel he had ‘a mandate from all of football’, and will state his case in February at an 'extraordinary elective FIFA congress'.

Despite initial speculation he would resign, the 79-year-old is expected to stand for re-election, and will announce his plans for reform at a Press conference later today.

Likely challengers to Blatter include UEFA President Michel Platini, and Prince Ali bin al-Hussein, who finished second in May’s vote.

World football’s governing body has been rocked by scandal in recent years, with several officials arrested in May for ‘racketeering and corruption’, and scepticism over the award of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar.
