Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero insists Napoli “don’t want” Roberto Soriano, or they’d have signed him in the summer.

The Partenopei had agreed a deal for the midfielder on transfer deadline day, but failed to get the paperwork completed in time for the move to take place.

It has been suggested that the deal could be revived in January, but the Blucerchiati patron doesn't believe Napoli's interest is serious.

“Napoli didn’t pull back for Soriano,” Ferrero told Radio Marte.

“They made a big deal saying that they were only three minutes late, but in fact the deal was reached at 10pm, they deposited the contract at 11.03.

“[Napoli President Aurelio] De Laurentiis is smart. Napoli don’t want Soriano, if they did they’d have already taken him in the summer.

“I often talk with the President [De Laurentiis] because I love him. Recently I asked him about [Ivan] Strinic by offering [Vasco] Regini.

“I also offered an exchange of [Luis] Muriel and [Manolo] Gabbiadini, but they rejected that.

“That’s what De Laurentiis is like, when he wants something he'll hammer you until you accept.”
