Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero insists “there are no negotiations with Gianluca Vialli. If he gives me the money, I’ll walk away.”

The reports continue to suggest talks are on the verge of completion only to then be scrapped entirely, before the process begins all over again.

“I called it a song and dance, because if I want to buy a club, a price is agreed, it is paid and the paperwork exchanged,” Ferrero told Rai Due.

“Anyone who knows about football gives their value to Sampdoria. When I arrived here, the Primavera youth team was playing 80km away, there was no home stadium for them, but I created Sampdoria Next Generations, a football school introducing kids to Samp.

“I don’t know how much they are offering me, because I haven’t heard from anyone and there are no negotiations. If Vialli wants Sampdoria, he should come here and make an offer. You’ve got to stop attacking me about this.

“If they give me the money Sampdoria is worth, then I will walk away. If not, I’m staying here, as Samp is in my heart and I am not afraid of anything.

“I work for Samp from morning until night. Vialli is a legend for Samp, I know that, but let’s try to make sense of the whole thing.”
