Samp were the Serie A side hit hardest by coronavirus, to the extent they stopped naming positive cases publicly as they had so many.

However, Ferrero believes the worst is now behind them and that his players are ready to resume the campaign against Inter next month

“We’re happy with the restart. Starting the season again means the coronavirus monster is vanishing,” the President told Radio Marte.

“We fought an invisible enemy, but I always said that we could start again with the right conditions.

“The important thing is that we do it. Samp will compete with everyone, I asked to play the postponed games first. Maybe a bit of luck would come in handy too.

“We were hit badly, but the lads are fine now. It’s a very sad thing, we didn’t know anything about this illness.

“We had 15-17 test positive, it’s no joke.”
