Massimo Ferrero has asked Sampdoria fans to leave previous owner Edoardo Garrone alone and vowed to meet protestors face-to-face.

Hundreds of Samp supporters chanted for Garrone to return outside his home yesterday, before the side’s biggest fan club released a statement urging him to come back.

However, Ferrero – under huge pressure as the incumbent President – has come out holding himself accountable.

“The Garrone family, one of the noblest in the city, must be left in peace,” he told Primocanale.

“Indeed, a monument should be erected for what they’ve done for this club. I’m the President, so it’s useless to blame those who were there before me.

“Now I’ll go to the city of Genoa to meet the protesters publicly: we’ll talk together for the good of the Sampdoria.”
