New Under-21 boss Ciro Ferrara was pleased with the performance against Turkey, but had some advice for brace hero Federico Macheda.

“At the end of the game some of the tactics went out the window, but that was understandable considering we had used all our substitutions,” he said of the 2-1 victory on his debut.

“I am very happy with the professional approach from the lads and how much they cared about representing the Italy shirt. They gave their all and I want to thank them. It's a shame we conceded that late goal, but never mind.

“Someone might've been a little nervous at the debut, but all the lads had the right attitude. We had many chances in a game that didn't feel like a friendly, considering some of the kicks that were flying around.”

Manchester United striker Macheda was the stand-out with a brace, but Ferrara also had time for Marco Romizi of Reggiana.

“I don't generally like singling out players, but Romizi comes from Lega Pro, a division with many interesting youngsters. He had a great game.

“Macheda needs to improve in certain aspects, such as helping out the team, but he scored two goals and deserve compliments.”
