The Azzurrini are having a brief three day get-together in order to help gel the side ahead of trips to play Scotland on April 25 and the Republic of Ireland on June 4.
“These are important, as they help to create the group and let it grow. Our work shows that,” said Ferrara.
De Luca, Rossi, Antei, Verratti and Insigne were on target in today’s 5-3 run-out against Lega Pro side Frosinone.
“It’s difficult to maintain fitness levels and we above all saw that in the first half, as my lads were very static and struggled.
“There was an excellent reaction in the second half and I am satisfied with that. We should’ve done a lot more, though, as this is not the real Italy. I have the squad that I want in my head, although the lads ought to get more playing time.”
Senior Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli had also asked for a get-together, but the idea was rejected by Serie A clubs.
“I am fortunate compared to Prandelli, as most of our players are in Serie B,” continued Ferrara.
“There are a few more problems with the top flight clubs. I hope these get-togethers can happen for Prandelli’s work too, but we must take into account the needs of Serie A sides.”
