Estudiantes defender Federico Fernandez can't wait to play for Napoli when his transfer formally goes through in June.

The 21-year-old played a key role in Estudiantes' recent title winning campaign and will join Napoli in a deal said to be worth €3m.

"I am very happy," Fernandez told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "I started at a great club, one of the best supported in Argentina. And now being able to play in Europe intrigues me a lot.

"I am very happy," Fernandez told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "I started at a great club, one of the best supported in Argentina. And now being able to play in Europe intrigues me a lot.

"To tell the truth I still haven't spoken with Napoli director of sport Riccardo Bigon, but I know that my agent has held various meetings. Anyway I already know a lot of things about Napoli.

"Jose Sosa is my friend. We played together. I read up on the beauty of the city and the passion of the fans on the Internet. I know from you that the fans are very intense just like me. We'll have fun.

"We Argentines continue to identify Napoli with the ex-Pibe d'Oro Diego Maradona. For me just the thought of wearing the blue shirt that Diego wore for a long time is a great honour."

Asked for his impression of Ezequiel Lavezzi, Fernandez replied: "He's a great player, one of the best to represent Argentine football in recent years. The thought of playing together makes me very emotional.

"I think that, if Napoli have got good results up until now, it means that the collective is strong and the Coach must be too.

"I can't wait to put myself into this context," he concluded.
