Bologna director Claudio Fenucci explained why Antonio Cassano, Mario Balotelli, Juan Quintero and Alfred Duncan won’t arrive.

The Rossoblu were promoted back into Serie A via the play-offs last month, joining Carpi and Frosinone.

At a meeting with fans, general manager Fenucci was asked whether Cassano could arrive as a free agent and bring Balotelli with him.

“I thank the supporters for their enthusiasm, but these are not profiles that fit our current plans,” he said.

Bologna are also struggling to get other targets, as Quintero had been on the verge of joining from Porto only to pull out, while Sampdoria midfielder Duncan went to Sassuolo instead.

“Unlike the other teams who are targeting only a couple of big players to complete their squad, we must distribute our resources over several moves. We are still lacking seven crucial figures.

“We lost Quintero and Duncan because we have planned margins that we must manoeuvre within.”

Bologna beat Lega Pro side Sud Tirol 1-0 this evening with a goal from Daniele Cacia.
