The Vesuviani have been seen as in talks in recent days with the Red Devils over an initial 12-month loan deal for the 26-year-old, who is widely reported as surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
The Gazzetta dello Sport report today that the player has now taken steps to help progress the move through, by informing manager Louis van Gaal that he wants the move to Napoli.
However, the same publication also assert that sporting director Riccardo Bigon is holding firm in negotiating with United to spend no more than between €4m and €5m in this move, split between any fee paid for the loan and any wages spent on the midfielder.
The Corriere dello Sport, meanwhile, indicate that United are open to a possible agreement to co-fund Fellaini’s €4m salary, but that they want an initial fee of between €4m and €5m to cover the loan too, amounting to a total amount of €7m requested from Napoli.
Rafa Benitez has commented more than once this week that the onus on the deal being completed is with Manchester United and Fellaini.
