The 68-year-old was supposed to play an integral part in the new era of the Azzurri after Euro 2016, but reports of a possible conflict of interests forced matters to a halt.

Lippi's son Davide works as a football agent and represents, among others, some of Italy's starters and would-be players. This places the World Cup-winning Coach in a difficult position, as the regulations don't allow for directors to have a special link with football agents.

Italian Federation president Carlo Tavecchio is very keen on having Lippi to help out Ventura in the new tenure, and he deferred the problem to the Federal Court.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport the Court will meet today at 18:00, Italian time, and should provide its verdict at the beginning of the coming week.

The Federal judges could either enforce a slightly less literal application of the rule on conflicts of interest, or they may have the rule changed to include only central figures such as the Coach.

Alternatively Lippi could be given a supervisory position with a different, somewhat ceremonial title, and still be asked to perform the duties of a director, though that solution seems to be popular with no-one at the moment.
