“Choosing Lecce was an easy decision to make,” confessed Diego Farias after completing the transfer from Cagliari.

The 29-year-old Brazilian spent the last six months on loan at Empoli, but has now moved to Lecce on loan with option to buy that becomes an obligation if they avoid relegation.

“Choosing Lecce was an easy decision to make. All the people I spoke to about Lecce told me it was a great city to live in and a club that does things right.

“Choosing Lecce was an easy decision to make. All the people I spoke to about Lecce told me it was a great city to live in and a club that does things right.

“I personally know several players who I am meeting again here, such as Gabriel, Cristian Dell’Orco, Luca Rossettini and Panagiotis Tachtsidis.

“My objective is to score as many goals as possible and reach double figures. It’s wonderful to know there are already 17,000 season tickets sold and their support will help a great deal.”

The negotiations for Farias have been going for several weeks now and the difficulties were acknowledged by director of sport Mauro Meluso on the Lecce website.

“Now I can say that this was the first negotiation we started this summer. It was a long process and I have to tell you that in the end the two Presidents proved decisive.

“Diego is a very versatile player who covered many roles in the attack and likes to run into space.”

Farias has chosen the Number 17 jersey at the Stadio Via del Mare.
