A former PSG and Inter player is reportedly the brains behind Italy international Marco Verratti’s move to Al-Hilal.

Multiple sources confirmed today that Verratti has accepted personal terms and commission for the transfer to Al-Hilal, so now the Saudi Pro League side must work out the fee with Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Sportitalia transfer expert Alfredo Pedulla, the mediator who has been working behind the scenes to pave the way for Verratti’s switch to Saudi Arabia is his former PSG teammate Maxwell.

The 41-year-old is familiar to Serie A too for his time playing for Inter and Empoli from 2006 to 2009.

After a spell at Barcelona, Maxwell saw out his career with five years at PSG, where he was teammates with Verratti.

Now 30 years old, Italy international Verratti has been at Paris Saint-Germain since leaving Pescara for €12m in the summer of 2012.

He only recently signed a new long-term contract to June 2026.
