Lazio fought back after an early error to beat Midtjylland 2-1 with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Pedro goals, putting them temporarily top of their Europa League group.

This was a totally balanced group after four games, as all four teams had five points. The Biancocelesti missed injured Ciro Immobile and suspended Manuel Lazzari as they sought revenge for the 5-1 defeat in Denmark last month.

It was not the ideal start, as Mario Gila’s misplaced pass was intercepted just outside the box and Gustav Isaksen turned away from Marcos Antonio to drill low into the near bottom corner.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic blasted over from 12 yards and Toma Basic’s angled drive skimmed the far post, while Felipe Anderson stung the goalkeeper’s gloves.

Lazio equalised after a good Mattia Zaccagni run down the left, Felipe Anderson them laid it off for Milinkovic-Savic to sweep into the far bottom corner first-time.

It was almost 2-1 moments later, Toma Basic seeing his attempt cleared off the line by Sviatchenko after a good Felipe Anderson run.

Milinkovic-Savic forced the goalkeeper at full stretch to fingertip a scorching strike round the far post, but straight after the restart Anders Dreyer was allowed a free header that thumped the crossbar.

Lazio also rattled the woodwork moments later when Zaccagni’s deflected strike forced a sensational Jonas Lossl reaction save to fingertip it onto the bar.

Zaccagni tried again, Lossl just pushing the effort wide of the far post, but he ended up creating the goal for substitute Pedro.

It was another Zaccagni cut inside from the left, the pull-back only bounced off Matias Vecino and fell at the feet of Pedro to sweep in from eight yards.

Felipe Anderson was clear on goal only to be denied by Lossl again, then Pedro had the ball in the net from a Felipe Anderson assist, but it was ruled offside using VAR.

Midtjylland also had a goal disallowed, though in this case Kaba was clearly in an offside position.
