The Euro 2020 quarter-final will be the 23rd meeting between Italy and Belgium, and the Azzurri have only lost one competitive encounter.

Belgium knocked out reigning European Championship holders Portugal with a 1-0 victory in Seville this evening thanks to a long-range strike by Thorgan Hazard.

It sets up the quarter-final on Friday July 2 at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

There have been 22 encounters between the nations so far, with 14 Italy victories, four draws and four Belgian success stories.

The Azzurri scored 43 goals and conceded 24.

Their most recent meeting was also at the European Championships, as Antonio Conte’s Italy swept Belgium aside 2-0 in the group game on June 13, 2016.

Emanuele Giaccherini and Graziano Pellè got the goals for the Nazionale.

Italy also beat Belgium 2-0 in the other European Championship clash in June 2000, while they drew 0-0 in the Euro ’80 group phase.

The one and only time Belgium beat Italy in a competitive match was 2-1 at home in the second leg of the European Championship qualifier play-off in May 1972.

Other than that, competitive fixtures saw the Nazionale win three and draw two, both 0-0.
