Fiorentina co-owner Andrea Della Valle says selling the club to Rocco Commisso marks ‘the end of an era’ but that it is ‘the right time to bow out’.

Commisso’s takeover of Fiorentina is expected to go through by Friday, with Andrea and his brother Diego in line to receive €160-170m from the Italo-American businessman.

“It’s an era that ends after 17 years,” the shoe tycoon [pictured, right] told Corriere della Sera.

“It’s an era that ends after 17 years,” the shoe tycoon [pictured, right] told Corriere della Sera.

“The last few months have been painful. We bought Fiorentina out of passion, but when the fans challenge you and come to protest in front of your shops, the signals are clear.

“It means that everything you do and give is always read in the wrong way. An era has ended, but it’s normal.

“The important thing is to wait for the right time to bow out.”
