Emerson Palmieri admits “this is the best period of my career” after impressing at Chelsea and providing an assist in Italy’s 3-1 win over Armenia.

“I am happy with the assist as it helped the team, but I am above all pleased with an important win,” the left-back told Rai Sport.

“In the first 15 minutes, Armenia were simply better and we have to give them credit, but after that we dominated the game and deserved the victory.

“I am happy with the assist as it helped the team, but I am above all pleased with an important win,” the left-back told Rai Sport.

“In the first 15 minutes, Armenia were simply better and we have to give them credit, but after that we dominated the game and deserved the victory.

“The pitch was bad, but it cannot be an alibi, as both teams were playing on it. Naturally, if you have more technique, it’s more of a problem.

“In the second half, with the extra man, we started moving the ball around with four rather than three, so both I and Alessandro Florenzi had the room to go forward.

“Finland is another tough game, but we must do everything to win and stay top of the group.”

Some were concerned at how Emerson would adapt to new Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, but he is becoming a fan favourite.

“I think it is the best period of my career. I’m very happy at Chelsea, just as I was last season with Maurizio Sarri. Obviously, a player is always happier when he plays regularly.”
