Mario Gomez has missed some sitters this season, but was unlucky when he pounced on a Juan Manuel Vargas cross only to find Aleksandr Gutor’s save from point-blank range.

Dinamo thought they had taken the lead, as Ciprian Tatarusanu spilled a Nemanja Nikolic strike and Nenad Adamovic was tapping in the rebound, but Gonzalo Rodriguez got back for a decisive goalline clearance.

Bad news for the Viola, as Juan Guillermo Cuadrado limped off after just 24 minutes, giving 17-year-old Simone Minelli his first team debut.

Marko Marin curled just past the upright, but remarkably it was Dinamo Minsk who broke the deadlock at the Stadio Franchi. It was a classic counter-attack and Sergei Kontsevoi was given time to control and fire in an Igor Stasevich cross after springing the offside trap.

Gonzalo Rodriguez forced a save out of Gutor, but play had been halted for a handling offence, while Vargas and substitute Josip Ilicic volleyed off target.

Dinamo Minsk actually doubled their lead, meaning they now had more goals in this match than the previous five put together. It was another rapid counter-attack with Franck Dja Djedje sending Adamovic through and the roll across was met by Nemanka Nikolic.

Gutor twice came to the rescue for Minsk, denying a fierce Ilicic left-footer from distance, then diving to block a Minelli header. The goalkeeper was also in action on a Vargas volley at the back post, but watched Ilicic’s free kick whistle wide.

Fiorentina finally got one back in the closing minutes with Marko Marin, who tapped in from close range after great work from 17-year-old debutant Minelli to set him up.

Minsk went down to 10 men thanks to a second Oleg Veretilo bookable offence. Minelli tried to snatch back a point, but Gutor flew to save.
