The Giallorossi made it three wins on the bounce in Serie A, putting them right back in the running for fourth place.

“I liked the team’s performance a great deal,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia after a 2-0 victory at the Tardini.

“I knew we’d struggle in the first half, as Parma have very fast attacking options, but we only had a problem on one counter-attack. After the break, we did better and were excellent.”

Edin Dzeko returned to the starting XI, but the breakthrough came from Bryan Cristante’s header on a corner.

“At this moment, we don’t have a Cristiano Ronaldo style striker who can score 15 goals in the first half of the season. I like to score with everyone, though clearly I’d like a few more goals from the forwards too.

“We do a lot of work on set plays and have a certain physicality in the side, plus players like Cristante who attack the space.

“When we decided to focus on young players, we knew there could be some difficulties at times. For example, Nicolò Zaniolo has great talent, but today his performance was below par, and these are moments that help a young player to grow.

“I see the same growth process in Justin Kluivert, Cengiz Under and Lorenzo Pellegrini.”
