Eusebio Di Francesco has claimed Inter players made the difference: ‘The defeat was not due to our tactical system.’

Cagliari went ahead against Inter through a Riccardo Sottil goal in the first half but eventually lost 3-1.

“We played a great game, with many young players on the pitch and with good personality, at some point we sat too deep and Inter’s individual qualities emerged, they scored three goals in the last 15 minutes,” Eusebio Di Francesco told DAZN.

“Sometimes we were lucky in the first half, I liked how we eased their pressure but eventually Inter players made the difference. It’s not about the tactical system, it disturbs me to talk about this,” he added.

“At the beginning of the game, they seemed more brilliant than us, we lost many duels but we improved during the match. We suffered when we sat too deep, that’s something we need to improve.”

Romelu Lukaku scored Inter’s third in the stoppage time dribbling past Alessio Cragno who had gone up for an corner kick.

“Nobody told me there was another minute left, when I saw Cragno going inside the box I told him: ‘Go ahead’,” Di Francesco revealed.

“What made me angry is that other players should have positioned themselves in a different way. I am sorry for the guys because they wanted to achieve something important.”
