On from extending his contract at Lazio, reports are that Atletico Madrid had a €20m summer bid for Antonio Candreva turned down.

Los Colchoneros were one of a handful of sides strongly linked with a move for the midfielder, even in spite of Lazio’s intention to keep hold of him, having just purchased the remaining 50 per cent of his registration this summer from Udinese” data-scaytid=”7″>Udinese.

The Corriere dello Sport reports that the Aquile paid €15m for that second half share, subsequently placing a valuation of between €30m and €35m on the Italy international.

Now having committed the 27-year-old to a new contract, the Rome publication suggests that an offer of €20m did come in from Atletico during the summer, but was rejected.

This initial €16m fee plus a further €4m in bonuses was apparently matched with a contract offer to the player of €2.5m-a-season in wages.
