Denzel Dumfries suggested that Inter ‘expected’ their strong start to the new season and highlighted the qualities of tonight’s opponents Sassuolo.

The Nerazzurri currently sit uncontested at the top of the Serie A table, having picked up a perfect 15 points from their first five league outings. Simone Inzaghi’s side also got off to an adequate start in the Champions League, securing a 1-1 draw away to Real Sociedad.

Inter are emerging as early favourites for the Scudetto this season, with many believing that the team have an extra charge following their second place finish in the Champions League last campaign.

Speaking to Inter TV via TMW, Dumfries first looked ahead to Inter’s clash with Sassuolo.

“We know the quality of Sassuolo, they won last time out against Juventus. However, we’re looking at ourselves, we’re fine. We expect a good Inter side, we’re focused. We want to win tonight.”

He touched on his improvements over his last two years with the club.

“It’s important in my role to attack and defend. I’ve been working on technique with my coach for the last two years and this makes it easier for me.”

Finally, Dumfries was asked if Inter expected such a strong start to the season considering the various new arrivals in the summer.

“Yes, we expected it. The new signings bring energy, then we have a strong team and we want to go on like this in the season.”
