Daniele De Rossi was satisfied with a point in Monday evening’s 1-1 Serie A draw between Roma and Juventus.

The Italian international gave his side an early lead, only for Azzurri teammate Giorgio Chiellini to hit back for the Old Lady. Francesco Totti then missed a penalty.

“The draw was the right result,” De Rossi noted. “We played an open game of football and we worked hard to make up for the absences in the side.”

The Giallorossi were without a host of players – including centre-backs Nicolas Burdisso, Simon Kjaer and Juan.

It left boss Luis Enrique with no option but to field De Rossi, usually a central midfielder, in central defence.

“I was helped by all of the side and Gabriel Heinze in particular,” De Rossi added. “Playing in that role increased my responsibility.

“It’s hard work, though, perhaps even harder than playing in midfield.”

With De Rossi dropping back, his absence and the suspension of Fernando Gago allowed youth team player Federico Viviani to get a game.

“He played great,” De Rossi continued. “I consider him as the youngster who is best prepared to play in the first team.

“He has time in front of him and I would bet on him – also in the immediate future. Obviously my opinion doesn’t matter, it is the Coach who decides, but I like him.”
