Roberto Donadoni praised his Bologna players for their ‘refusal to accept a draw’ after Erick Pulgar’s late winner against Sassuolo.

The Rossoblu had lost seven of their last nine matches prior to today’s meeting with the Neroverdi, prompting speculation the former Italy Coach will leave at the end of the season.

However, the Emilia-Romagna side capitalised on a red card shown to Edoardo Goldaniga to score in the dying minutes and register a 2-1 victory.

“Today we started very well, getting in front and having a lot of chances,” Donadoni said after seeing his side move up to 13th in Serie A.

“From there, we lost a bit of distance, allowing Sassuolo to come out.

“But I say well done to the boys for their refusal to accept the draw, which was crucial.

“I am proud to coach this group and I am happy for the President.

“Today, the three points were the fruit of our desire and knowing how to suffer. I look at my glass half full.”

Donadoni is now targeting a top-half finish for his team.

“We always need to look at those ahead, not behind us. With that in mind, we can definitely claw back the three to four points to tenth place.

“But we need to remain focused.”
