Bologna boss Roberto Donadoni felt the 3-0 defeat to Napoli “was a tough one to swallow, because we paid for two or three individual errors.”

The Rossoblu held on for 67 minutes, but once Jose Callejon broke the deadlock, Dries Mertens and Piotr Zielinski completed the 3-0 rout.

“The difference was they scored three goals. It’s a pity, as we did really well for almost 70 minutes, then paid for two or three individual errors that were quite naïve,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“That’s the regret, playing so well and then losing 3-0, it’s a tough one to swallow for the lads. What we must take from it is that this is the right path forward. If we play with this desire, hunger and organisation, we can go far.

“Obviously, it’s going to be difficult against a side like Napoli that have so much quality and are one of the best sides in Serie A. If we can cause them this many problems, it means we’ve got quality and something to build on.

“Palacio had a great game. We knew he wouldn’t last to the end, but he did really well, he catalyses the play and is an important leadership figure. He’ll improve even more with greater fitness levels, I am sure, and really help us out.

“After three minutes, a fan behind me was calling for a substitution. I had to laugh, that’s not a good start. By the 70th minute he’d probably want 26 changes.

“We can adopt any system we like, but it’s ultimately about the spirit of the team and the interpretation. We could say the system was a failure if our performance had been below par, but with this attitude and approach, you can’t criticise that.

“The team performance was very good and all to be considered positive. Ultimately we only lost against a fantastic opponent because of some individual errors. Napoli are accustomed to creating seven or eight clear-cut chances per game. The fact they struggled tonight means we're on the right track.
