Coach Mihajlovic is reportedly under pressure at San Siro, with two games to save his job, and the former midfielder has been named as a candidate to replace him.

“If there’s a chance, I’ll assess things,” Donadoni told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It’s obvious I have a particular affection for Milan. In the not too distant past there was some contact, but the club went in a different direction.

“The changes on the bench? From an outsider’s point of view, it does have an effect. It’s a new trend at Milan.

“I know Mihajlovic, he’s a good one, I hope he gets more time and gives them consistency. You have to let him work.

“Milan have made a lot of changes, and when you make changes it requires patience. Of course, given the level of investment it was reasonable to think of a better position.

“But there’s still plenty of time to recover. I think the right year to take Milan back to the top will be the next one.

“Silvio Berlusconi? I imagine he’s very bitter, because he realises his Milan are making a lot of effort in recent years.

“But I know Berlusconi, at the right moment he knows when to step in and give them a kick.”

Donadoni won praise for the dignified job he did as Parma went bankrupt last season, and is surprised he hasn’t been offered a job yet this season.

“I thought I’d be coaching from the beginning of the season. I’m sorry I don’t have a bench, but my character is not to look back.

“I go on, and I don’t rule anything out. Stress doesn’t frighten me, I want to get back in the game because I have so much to offer, but I need a project.

“I need to work in the right way, I don’t want to suffer like last year.”
