Roberto Donadoni believes Italy “have all the weapons to do well” against Spain this evening.

The Azzurri face Vicente Del Bosque’s side at 5pm UK time, in a repeat of the 2012 European Championship final.

“Every squad depends on time and general football situation in your country,” Donadoni told AS.

“We no longer have great individual players, but it’s always difficult to play against us because of our organisation.

“We have all the weapons to do well despite playing an opponent who would be difficult for anyone in the world.

“A Coach adapts his ideas to the personnel he was available at the time, and that’s what Conte has done.”

Donadoni’s last match in his own spell as Italy CT was a penalty defeat to Spain, which kicked-off La Roja’s winning cycle of two European Championships and the World Cup.

“Looking at the weapons they had, they’d have certainly won something sooner or later. Of course that win began their cycle, but sooner or later quality will come through. They were to strong not to.

“I know the game was evenly matched, Spain weren’t better than us. We played the match without [Andrea] Pirlo, [Gennaro] Gattuso and [Fabio] Cannavaro, who were key for Italy.

“Despite that, Spain only beat us on penalties, where it’s a lottery. They had more luck, and they went on to make history.”
