Roberto Donadoni explains his departure from Bologna, and feels the club wasn’t “willing to invest”.

The former Italy CT was relieved of his duties at the end of the Serie A season, with Filippo Inzaghi expected to replace him.

“They felt the work done wasn’t satisfactory,” Donadoni shrugged, speaking on Radio Rai Uno.

“When I was asked to to something I tried to carry it through to completion and I think that all-in-all we did a good job, even if obviously there were things that could have been done better.

“Several players, like [Simone] Verdi have grown and become protagonists. After that it’s clear you have to be willing to invest and bring in quality players.

“I hope that in the future greater satisfactions can be guaranteed than in the recent past.

“Before [owner Joey] Saputo, Bologna were in great difficulty, we came through the situation together and now I hope they can bring the club the success that the fans and the city deserve.”

Donadoni was then asked about his own future.

“Honestly, I don’t know. My adventure in Bologna is over, so now I’ll evaluate things with calm and serenity.”
