Speaking to reporters following the match in Emilia Romagna, former Italy boss Donadoni expressed his pleasure that the embarrassing 5-1 defeat to Torino can now be put to one side.

“Today it was hot and it was not easy,” Donadoni commented. “We got back on the right track. Now we will quickly forget about this [Torino] match.

“We need to improve our reading of some moments during the match, even though the team showed the right kind of anger out on the pitch.”

Donadoni was also happy with the contribution of substitute Di Francesco, who has recently returned from a successful stint on Italy U21 duty. He scored his first Serie A goal on Sunday.

“Di Francesco? He showed good things in the U21 team and it has given him confidence.”
