Alessio Dionisi warns Sassuolo that ‘good performances aren’t enough anymore, we need results’ after a 2-1 defeat to Atalanta.

This was their third consecutive Serie A loss, but after Domenico Berardi pulled one back from the Robin Gosens and Davide Zappacosta openers, Gregoire Defrel wasted a huge opportunity to equalise at the Gewiss Stadium.

“We could’ve come away with a draw, so we leave Bergamo with regrets,” confessed the coach to DAZN.

“Good performances aren’t enough anymore, we need results. It’s a pity we leave empty-handed, because we did believe in ourselves despite going 2-0 down and that is a quality we must continue to grow.

“Berardi’s goal reopened the game and I think we really had the feeling we’d score in the second half.”

There was also some controversy and protests from the Sassuolo players.

“I am told it was a penalty, but we have to accept the decision of the referee, as it is a very difficult job.

“As for us, we can and must improve to be more incisive in the final third. Considering the quality in this team, we don’t finish enough of our chances. It’s a pleasure to play beautiful football, but you need goals at the end of all that build-up too.

“Sometimes we don’t believe in the cross, or we seek another pass rather than just going for goal.”
