Alessandro Diamanti is hoping to finally score for Italy after again being selected by boss Cesare Prandelli.

The Bologna man has won five caps for his country so far and he’s part of the squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Malta.

“I hope that I can score as soon as possible for Italy, but, to be honest, just being part of the squad is enough for me,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I’m happy to be called up by the Azzurri and it is normal that I always give 100 per cent when I’m given a chance.”

Diamanti won just one cap for Prandelli before he was named in the Euro 2012 squad – a tournament that saw Italy reach the Final.

“That experience was fantastic and our squad was marvellous,” Diamanti noted. “We thought we’d win it, but then we came up against a very strong Italy side.”

Diamanti did score in the shoot-out victory against England at Euro 2012.
