The Sea Horses have already been relegated into Serie B, going down with Parma and Cagliari.

“It was a difficult week, but this group of players has real unity and proved it throughout the campaign,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We fought and played some good football, but were unable to make that final hoped for step up. It’s a shame and we have regrets over the head-to-head results.

“When I arrived here, I had in mind to achieve safety and set up a project. I did not hit that target.

“Nonetheless, last Sunday I saw something extraordinary in the stands with supporters standing to applaud this team after relegation.

“Franco Brienza scored a magnificent goal against Sassuolo and if we’d won that game people would’ve talked about it for days.”

Napoli are also likely to be tense and distracted, as they suffered a shock Europa League semi-final exit to Dnipro on Thursday night.

“We know that Napoli tend to create many scoring opportunities. However, when we’ve got all our players on form and work together, we’ve always troubled every opponent.

“The group remained united throughout and we’ve laid good foundations for next season.”
