Gigi Di Biagio is happy with Italy Under-21s’ performance in their 6-1 friendly win against Lupa Roma today.

Palermo striker Andrea Belotti was the hero of the afternoon with a hat-trick, whilst Cagliari’s Samuele Longo, Inter’s Federico Bonazzoli and Barnsley’s Marcello Trotta were also on the scoresheet.

The Azzurrini also hit a crossbar and left their Coach with positive vibrations ahead of the friendly against Denmark on Monday.

“This test has given me important and positive indications and that what I was looking for,” Di Biagio told media after the match in Rome.

“We’ve met a Lega Pro side who are having a great season so far and we were good to read well the game in terms of rhythm, mentality and desire.

“We produced a great deal of attacking play. Obviously, we still need to improve, but I’ve seen that the team keeps growing, so I am happy.”

Italy will fly to Bari tomorrow afternoon, and will then reach by coach Matera, where on Monday they are scheduled to face Denmark in a friendly.

“We’ll see at what stage this group is at in terms of growth. I want to see the right mentality, regardless of the opponent and the match.”
