Luigi Di Biagio confirms “I feel ready” to take over as Italy CT when Antonio Conte leaves.

The current Azzurri Coach will step down after this summer’s European Championships, and the Under-21 boss admits he’d like take over the senior side.

“I’m proud to be linked with the senior national team,” Di Biagio admitted in an interview with Rai.

“I’d be a hypocrite to say I wouldn’t like it, I feel ready but those judgements aren’t down to me.

“For now my objective is just to qualify for the UEFA Under-21 European Championships, and preparing young players for the senior team.

“In that respect I’m happy for [Daniele] Rugani and [Federico] Bernardeschi, I hope others can join them soon.”

Conte bemoaned the lack of time with his players in international football, would that be a problem?

“Coaching the national team and a club are two very different things. In the first you have to do as much as possible in the little time you have available.

“Antonio’s words are natural, he has a lot of ideas in his head.”
