The Azzurrini collected their first three points of their 2015 European Championship campaign following Thursday’s 3-1 home loss to Belgium.
“It was important to win today – even if we didn’t manage to play at the tempo that we wanted to in the first half,” the former Inter and Roma midfielder commented.
“We gave it a good go, but it wasn’t easy because of the heat and how they were set-up. We should be happy for the result, but less so when it comes to the performance…”
Di Biagio’s boys won thanks to goals from Francesco Fedato and Riccardo Improta, players who he introduced as second-half substitutes.
“They were ready to do well when called upon,” Di Biagio added. “The support of the bench is really important.
“I was calling for us to continue attacking in the closing stages, not because of goal difference, but to instil a positive mentality.”
