Mattia Destro has been added to the Italian Under-21 squad after failing to make the 2012 European Championship.

Siena’s Destro, along with Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia, were the last to be cut from the Giro Azzurro as Cesare Prandelli yesterday named his 23-man squad.

The striker, however, has today been called up by Azzurrini boss Ciro Ferrara for the June 4 qualifier against the Republic of Ireland.

Ferrara named a 22-man party on Tuesday which also included Pescara’s Marco Verratti after his brief time with the full squad at Coverciano.
