Stefano Denswil admits having Mitchell Dijks at Bologna helped sway him and “Serie A is an important litmus test for us defenders.”
The 26-year-old Dutch centre-back completed his €6m transfer from Club Brugge last week and held a presentation Press conference today.
“I was at the stadium for the final game of the season against Napoli, my friend Dijks invited me. Bologna and I made contact about a month ago, the Club really wanted to sign me,” said Denswil.

“I was at the stadium for the final game of the season against Napoli, my friend Dijks invited me. Bologna and I made contact about a month ago, the Club really wanted to sign me,” said Denswil.
“I'm happy to be here, I feel good. The staff and my teammates are helping me with the language. I'm only speaking English at the moment but I'm learning Italian.
“At the moment, a lot is being asked of defenders: bring the ball to midfield, help in the build-up, play with certainty. These are vital characteristics in terms of making a contribution to the play. I'm here to demonstrate my qualities.
“Dijks had great things to say about the staff, this certainly made the difference when I made my decision. I also chose to come here because Serie A is an important litmus test for us defenders.”
Bologna were shaken at the weekend by news Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has leukaemia, but the tactician is pledging to work on during treatment.
“Two days ago, we held a video call with the Coach. The team want to show a response and we all want to fight for him.”
