Fiorentina captain Manuel Pasqual believes the Della Valle brothers’ criticism of Cesare Prandelli is harsh, but understandable.

Both of the Viola’s owners, Diego and Andrea, yesterday poured scorn on the former Artemio Franchi and Italy Coach, who recently resigned from his post with the Azzurri.

Speaking at a Press conference today, the veteran defender believes the Della Valles’ comments were also made in defence of Giuseppe Rossi, who was singled out for particular criticism by Prandelli himself recently.

“The Della Valle’s words were harsh, but they experienced a similar situation [with Prandelli] themselves,” Pasqual said.

“It’s a complicated situation for Italian football. They used their words to defend their club, given that one of their players was attacked.

“Italian football is heading for the second tier.

“Prandelli’s words? I think they were directed at the Tweet Rossi published after his disappointment at being left out [of the World Cup squad].

“He felt ready for the adventure at the World Cup, that’s why he published that message.”
