The former Juventus legend arrived with huge fanfare in September and a contract worth a reported €1.6m per season made him the top earner in A-League history.

His contract is for one year with an option for another, but Del Piero confirmed that talks have reached an impasse.

“We have been talking. We are waiting for what the club decide… they wait for me. Everybody is waiting,” Del Piero told The Australian.

“We have discussed things. We have a good relationship, but at the moment we have to think day by day.”

Sydney FC are currently propping up the A-League with just three wins in 10 games and already replaced Coach Ian Crook with Frank Farina.

“It will be a matter for the board to sit down and sort out something in regards to Ale in the next few weeks,” said chief executive Tony Pignata.
