Vicente Del Bosque confessed “Italy were the better team and I wish them the best,” but it’s not the end of an era for Spain.

The Azzurri emerged 2-0 winners in Saint-Denis to reach the Euro 2016 quarter-finals, the first competitive victory over La Roja since 1994.

“Italy were the better team, and I wish them the best,” said the Spain Coach in a Press conference.

“We were a little shy in the first half. We improved a bit but we couldn't get a goal because Italy were clearly superior.”

David De Gea prevented more goals, while Gigi Buffon only made two genuine saves towards the end.

“I admit Italy were superior to us, but to say they gave us a drubbing is excessive. You can't doubt our good intentions, we had the desire to go for the game, but sometimes the opponents are better.”

Spain have now crashed out of the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016 during the early stages, so is that dominance over?

“I don't think an era has ended, there are plenty of good players, the youth structure is strong, as are the clubs.”
