Roberto De Zerbi still believes his Benevento side can avoid relegation despite their pointless start to the season.

Le Streghe have lost every one of their 13 matches of the campaign and have already fallen 10 points off safety.

However, the former Palermo boss thinks the points difference is not yet insurmountable.

“Being 10 or 11 points away from fourth-bottom, you can still bring that back,” De Zerbi said ahead of tomorrow evening’s trip to Atalanta.

“I am still hurt by the point we lost against Cagliari at home last Sunday.

“I have told the club that this team need people with experience in Serie A and with strong personalities.”

De Zerbi admitted his side face a difficult match in Bergamo, with La Dea fresh from a 5-1 demolition of Everton in the Europa League.

“We are preparing the match in order to try to get points. There is a very strong team in front of us, there will be a lot of duels.

“We need to be ready to defend and ready to fight.”
