The Rosanero lost at Cagliari tonight, making it one point from the last six games and leaving them without a win in the whole of October.

Club President Maurizio Zamparini is notoriously impatient, leading to suggestions the young Coach could be sacked.

“I complimented the lads, because it’s too easy to do it when you win,” De Zerbi told Sky after the match.

“We come away from this game with a bitter taste in our mouths. I don’t know when the team will blossom, and if there will be time, but I know that the way out of this is to work.

“Zamparini? He came to see us yesterday evening, as he always does, and for now he has good words for everyone.

“It’s clear that we have to give satisfaction to him, ourselves and the fans. It’s clear I’d like to Coach as long as possible, but for a Coach in Italy the word ‘sack’ is aways there.

“I think I have a good team, certainly in terms of potential. Right now things aren’t very good, but we can improve.

“I regret not having been able to work on our system of play from the start. Our wingers were injured, meaning we had to play with a back-three.

“We need to be more clinical in the last third, and pay attention to the dangers at the other end. Finally, there’s the mental aspect.

"There are three or four teams fighting for one place in the relegation battle, and we're not inferior to the other three.

"Pescara, Empoli and Crotone have a head start because they've been working together for a long time. My goal is to get two or three wins in a row.

"I'm convinced that, with the conviction we showed tonight, we can stay up."
