Benevento boss Roberto De Zerbi admits it was difficult for his side to prepare for today’s match at Fiorentina.

Le Streghe were beaten 1-0 on a day when the action on the pitch was overshadowed by tributes paid to Viola captain Davide Astori, who tragically passed away in his sleep in the early hours of last Sunday morning.

“It was very difficult to play here in Florence today and it was difficult to prepare a match of this type,” De Zerbi explained after his team lost to a Vitor Hugo header.

“Footballers are human beings who think, they are not robots you can turn on and off every Sunday.

“It’s normal that you don’t manage to play a real match. We are happy that we were protagonists on a day when the love, respect and memory for the boy will always remain inside of us.”
