The Italy international has bagged 27 goals in 26 Serie A games this term and his former teammate and current rival De Vrij has pointed out that he’s not just a great forward.

“Ciro is great, also as a person, but I already knew as I have played with him,” he told DAZN. “He scores a lot of goals, he always believes he can score, always aims for the target. It’s difficult to mark him.

Inter were eliminated in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia last weekend and lost two vital League games against Lazio and Inter ahead of the break.

But the defender was more annoyed with the three draws at the start of the year, when Inter played three consecutive 1-1 games against Atalanta, Lecce and Cagliari.

“It’s true that the coach expects a lot from us, but I don’t think that’s the reason,” he added. “We couldn’t keep a clean sheet anymore; we took the lead but didn’t win.

“These are points that cost us.”

De Vrij and Inter are back in action on Sunday, when they welcome Sampdoria at the Giuseppe Meazza.
